This is not tax advice and your CA is the person who decides any of it. What follows is the set of questions that, asked before the first payment, saves an argument at filing time.
It matters more than it sounds in this category, because most Instagram automation tools are sold from outside India in dollars, and a few are sold from inside it in rupees.
The four things that differ
The currency you are charged in. A dollar subscription is converted by your card issuer, usually with a markup on top of the exchange rate, and the rupee amount moves month to month.
The document you receive. Some vendors issue a receipt. A registered Indian business generally wants a tax invoice carrying the supplier's details, your GSTIN if you gave it, and the tax treatment written on it.
Whether your GSTIN can be recorded at all. Several international vendors have a field for it; several do not. If there is no field, ask support before you assume.
How the tax is handled. Domestic and imported services are treated differently under GST, and the treatment is your CA's call rather than the vendor's marketing page. What you can do is make sure the paperwork exists to support whichever treatment applies.
What the Indian vendors publish
Indian tools in this category tend to be explicit that tax sits on top of the listed price, which is normal and worth reading before you compare stickers.
Interakt's pricing page, read on 24 September 2026, shows its plans as plus taxes. AiSensy's pricing page on the same date lists its Indian virtual number add-on as ₹2,000 plus GST per year. Neither of those is a hidden charge; it is the standard way Indian SaaS is quoted, and it means a ₹2,799 plan is not a ₹2,799 outflow.
Tools quoting in dollars do not carry that line, which can read as cheaper until the card statement arrives with a conversion markup instead.
A dollar price is not a price. It is a price plus whatever your bank decides that week.
The questions, in order
- Which entity is billing me, and where is it registered? This determines whether you are buying a domestic service or importing one, which is the first thing your CA will ask.
- Can I store my GSTIN on the account, and will it appear on the invoice? If the answer is no, find out now rather than in month nine.
- Is the listed price inclusive or exclusive of tax? Indian vendors usually say plus taxes. Foreign vendors usually say nothing.
- Where do I download invoices, and for how long are they kept? Twelve months of PDFs you can fetch yourself is the answer you want.
- What currency is my account fixed in, and can it change later? Most platforms fix the currency on the first payment and do not change it afterwards.
Why this belongs in a tool comparison at all
Because it changes the ranking. Two products at what looks like the same monthly can differ by the forex markup plus whatever your accountant can or cannot do with the paperwork. For a small registered business paying for three or four SaaS tools, that gap is not rounding.
It also changes how you should read a free tier. A free plan with no card is genuinely free of all of this, which is why a fortnight on a free tier is the cheapest way to evaluate anything here — no invoice, no conversion, no argument.
The refund and cancellation half
The other paperwork question, asked just as rarely: what happens when you stop.
Monthly subscriptions in this category usually cancel at the end of the period, which means the last invoice still arrives. Annual plans bought for the discount are the ones worth reading carefully, because ten months for twelve is only a saving if you are still using the tool in month eleven. Credit packs behave differently again — ours do not expire, so what you paid for stays yours whether or not you keep a subscription.
None of that is exciting, and all of it is easier to establish on the day you sign up than on the day you leave.
Where we sit
PostEngage bills in rupees through Razorpay for Indian accounts and in other currencies through Stripe elsewhere, and a workspace fixes its currency on its first purchase. Every INR purchase gets a GST invoice. Our free tier — 100 AI-written replies, with templated replies unlimited underneath — needs no card at all, so a trial creates no paperwork in either direction.
Checklist
The rupee-versus-dollar arithmetic across Indian tools is in the cheapest way to automate Instagram DMs in India, what each free tier actually caps is in free plans of Indian Instagram tools, and the compliance question that matters more than any of this — whether the tool is on Meta's official API — is in how to check an Instagram tool is on the official API.
